Dr. Tesha Robinson has a unique pathway to educational leadership. She served for several years as a mental health provider and certified school social worker. Summer school principal and interim principal of an alternative high school were her first two administrative roles. Those experiences strengthened her love for serving students who are at-risk and changing systems. Her innovation has led to creating various programs that break barriers for academic success. One specific program increased a high school graduation rate by 3%. She currently serves as an assistant principal at a high school. She is in the process of completing a superintendent endorsement. Dr. Robinson is a humble addition to the education field.
Dr. Robinson is a woman of Christian faith. She has been married to James for 13 years. They have one biological child, Eve. They are foster parents and enjoy traveling.
Alternative education should be framed not as a last resort for ‘bad’ students but as a way to provide positive, intentional supports.
Schools can work to inspire confidence in students who have fallen behind by offering consistent support, starting in the summer.
High school teachers can give students encouragement, and direct them to credible resources and assistance when needed.
Following simple guidelines can make the transition into leadership easier for new administrators.
